The O.E.V.E. was founded in 1984, drawing on the history of a medieval chivalric order created in 1333 and on the wine-making traditions of the countries that once belonged to the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Its patron is His Royal Highness Archduke Karl von Habsburg-Lothringen, descendant of the last Emperor of Austria and of the Kings of Bohemia and Hungary, and a leading figure in the pan-European movement. The O.E.V.E. has its headquarters in Eisenstadt, Austria, where its Senate is based. It has been a member of the F.I.C.B. for over 25 years and organized our International Congress in 1999. It has set up consulates in some twenty countries in Europe, 5 of which are also members of the F.I.C.B. (Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Slovenia and Switzerland).

The newly inthronized Officers of the O.E.V.E.
The celebration of the 40th anniversary of the O.E.V.E., on Saturday 19 October, began with a solemn mass in the Cathedral of Saint-Martin in Eisenstadt. It was accompanied by a magnificent concert featuring the music of Joseph Haydn, who composed and presented many of his works in the neighboring Esterhazy Palace. At the end of the mass, around sixty new O.E.V.E. officers were inducted by the Magister Generalis and Consul General of the O.E.V.E., Prof. Ing. Dr. Alfred R. Tombor-Tintera, and his assessors. The participants then marched through the streets of Eisenstadt and met up in front of the Esterhazy Palace for a military parade presided over by H.R.H. Karl von Habsburg-Lothringen. The day and its associated events were attended by some 1,200 people and concluded with a banquet accompanied by excellent local Burgenland wines.
The President of F.I.C.B., Alan Bryden, addressed a message of friendship from the member brotherhoods of our federation on this 40th anniversary, which was celebrated with great pomp and demonstrated the vitality of the O.E.V.E. in the service of the values of peace and conviviality that we share.
