F.I.C.B. international events

FICB organizes periodically an International Congress which gives its members an opportunity to meet in a wine region which hosts them. This Congress comprises meetings between the brotherhoods, wine tourism, cultural events open to the public to promote the brotherhoods and exchanges on the traditions and the techniques for vine and wine. The Congress is held at the invitation of one or several brotherhoods, or an association thereof, members of F.I.C.B., which take responsibility for its organization, according to specification defined by FICB.They are usually followed by an optional extension.
Since its creation in 1964, some fifty F.I.C.B. International Congresses have been organized by its members in Europe and North America, bringing together between 200 and 400 participants. These congresses include visits and tastings at wineries, meals at emblematic sites in the host region, and special events: academic sessions, tastings of wines from around the world brought by participants, a procession through the host town in full costume, and induction into the host brotherhood or brotherhoods. They are designed for 200 to 300 participants.
Congresses are held every two years, with the last ones taking place in Serbia (2012), Champagne (2014), California (Napa and Sonoma Valleys) (2016) and Macedonia (May 31-June 4, 2018). The International Congress scheduled for 2020 in Italy’s Piedmont region has been cancelled due to the pandemic. The next one will take place in Portugal in 2023.
The next one will take place in Portugal in 2023, followed by an optional 2-3 day extension to complete the visit to the host region.
In 2017, the F.I.C.B. General Assembly approved the launch of two new types of F.I.C.B. events, to broaden its offer to its members and create new opportunities for discovering wines and regions, making contacts and visiting other brotherhoods.
Two new formats have been approved :
The “F.I.C.B. International Tasting Challenge”, which emphasizes expertise in wine tasting and scoring, combining blind tasting competitions and collective evaluations of the wines served. with visits to iconic places and local gastronomy. The first edition of this Challenge took place in in Helsinki, Finland in June 2019, , organized by the Knights of the Vine of Finland.
The “F.I.C.B. sponsored Wine Discovery Tours“, enabling groups of up to 50 participants to discover a wine-growing region under the aegis of a host brotherhood. The first edition was held in September 2022 in Madeira (Portugal).
The F.I.C.B. General Assembly » is held every year at the beginning of the year at the Federation’s headquarters in Paris. Representatives of member brotherhoods and observers from candidate brotherhoods attend. Discussions are punctuated by lunch (usually at the Musée du Vin) and dinner in a typical, convivial venue.

The selection of venues and organizers for all these events, as well as the approval of their programs, are subject to specifications drawn up and applied by the F.I.C.B. Board. Click below to access the specifications:
