The Hong Kong Wine Society promotes blind wine tasting and rating

The Hong Kong Wine Society (HKWS) was founded in 1981. Its main activity is to organize events for its members where they blind taste and rate a selection of 12 wines according to a precise protocol, followed by a gastronomic dinner.

This blind tasting, which lasts approx. 45’, allows the members to exchange their appreciation and expertise. The information and ratings thus collected are shared between the members and constitute an important reference for the wines selected.

The HKWS is a member of F.I.C.B. since 2017. On 23 August 2018, it hosted the F.I.C.B. Treasurer, Alain Huet, and his wife Annie, who were able to take part in the blind tasting session (see list of the wines tasted that evening), followed by a friendly dinner to which also took part some members of the Confraria dos Enofilos of Macau, another member of F.I.C.B.

Alain Huet was thus able to convey the greetings of and update on our Federation, recalling the upcoming F.I.C.B. wine tasting and rating Challenge to take place in Finland from 6 to 9 June 2018, hosted by the Knights of the Vine of Finland. It is likely that members of HWKS and of the Confraria of Macau will participate will take part : they should be particularly well prepared for the two ratings to take place during the event (for assessing individual expertise and to collectively rate the wines served). He also encouraged participation in our 2020 Congress in Alba and Piemonte (Italy) in June 2020 .

Roland Müksch, president of HKWS, acknowledged the interest and importance of their membership in F.I.C.B. and looked forward to future participation of its members in F.I.C.B. international events.
