The Ordre de la Channe, the first wine brotherhood in the Valais, was founded on 1 December 1957 at Château de Villa in Sierre. The brotherhood was the result of the mixing and pooling of ideas put forward on numerous occasions by men who respected good wine, wished to pay tribute to it and wanted to propagate it ever more widely. Its first President was Dr Henry Wuilloud, one of the great names in Valais winegrowing.
