The Ordo Equestris Vini Europae (O.E.V.E.) is a knightly order that promotes the values and culture of wine, and more generally the values of friendship and peace in Europe. It has representations (consulates) in more than twenty countries in Europe. The central level (Senate) of the O.E.V.E. is headed by its Magister Generalis, Prof Ing. Dr. Alfred RAKOCZI TOMBOR TINTERA. Based in Eisenstadt, Austria. The O.E.V.E. has been an active member of the F.I.C.B. for many years. It is associated with its governance through Consul Dr. Hubert WEBER, Vice President for Austria on our Board of administration. The O.E.V.E. is patronised by the Chief of the House of Habsburg, currently H.H. Karl von HABSBURG.
Four national Consulates are active members of the F.I.C.B.: the Consulates of Macedonia, Moldova, Romania and Slovenia. The Consulate of Macedonia organised the 50th International Congress of the F.I.C.B. in 2018 with great success. The Consulate of Slovenia is organising a “wine discovery tour” in Slovenia from 18 to 22 July 2023 under the patronage of the F.I.C.B., in collaboration with the Slovenian Wine Knights Brotherhood, also a member of the F.I.C.B.
On April 19, 2023, 3 dignitaries of the O.E.V.E. visited the Paris Wine Museum and the F.I.C.B., where they were welcomed by our President Alan BRYDEN and our Treasurer Alain HUET :
- Senatsconsul Alois PAUL
- Consul Ing. Josef DERHASCHNIG
- Ambassadeur Prof.ing.Dr. Josef JENEI
They presented Alan BRYDEN, on behalf of Prof. TOMBOR TINTERA, with a plaque of honour with the O.E.V.E. Knight’s cross and the coat of arms of the Order.
On the occasion of this friendly meeting, it was agreed to focus on the promotion of our common values and the exchange of information on :
– the events planned by the Senate and the Consulates of the O.E.V.E. and by the F.I.C.B. and its members with a view to promoting them and, where appropriate, encouraging participation,
– the initiatives of both organisations in the field of wine appreciation and education. For example, the F.I.C.B. presented its “Multilingual Lexicon”, which provides translations in 5 languages of some 300 key terms used in relation to wine production and tasting and il was agreed that the O.E.V.E. could contribute to the improvement of the German edition. The “F.I.C.B. Guide for the organisation of blind recognition competitions of grape varieties and appellations” which was approved at our 2023 General Assembly was also discussed.
