In 1971, a few enthusiastic wine lovers founded the Dutch Society of Friends of Wine. This society is run by a board of directors and consists of six regional divisions, each chaired by a bailiff. Each department is represented on the Board of Directors.
The purpose of the society is to promote the appreciation and knowledge of wine. As a result, the Society develops various activities such as tastings, trips to wine-growing regions and country presentations. To promote knowledge of the characteristics of wine and strengthen our membership, the Society offers courses open to all, culminating in an examination consisting of a theoretical part and a practical test based on an individual tasting.
The NGW organises annual study trips to an interesting wine-growing region, chosen after consultation with its members
Ranks: Aspirant Officer, Officer, Grand Officer, Master
Our association maintains good contacts with other brotherhoods throughout Europe. In some wine-growing regions, the Society has appointed an ambassador to represent our interests in that area.
