The Compagnons du Bordeaux brotherhood, one of the oldest in the Gironde, was founded on 16 August 1966 by winemakers. Its members are, of course, winemakers (from all the Gironde appellations), but also those who help promote the Gironde terroir, with its wealth of appellations. As a result, discerning gourmets and wine enthusiasts have joined the ranks of the brotherhood.
The annual chapter meeting is held on the second Sunday in September each year at a different location.
This location is chosen for its history with the brotherhood or for the prestige of the site. Over the years, the Compagnons du Bordeaux have traveled from the Saint-Émilion region to the Sauternes region or to the Northern Gironde. The date is chosen based on the grape harvest season, which begins at that time.
The grape harvest festival is thus launched that day.
Since its founding , a succession of great masters has led the organization , as listed below:
1966–1985 Dr. Brun-Despagne
1986–1990 Gérard Cesar, M.
1991–1997 Colonel Godrie
1998–2008 Alain Pargade
2009–2013 Mr. Jean François Chaussie
2014–2023 Guy Latorre
2024– : Ms. Chantal Dufaure
The various activities of the brotherhood summarized on the website include, in addition to the September chapter :
