Noble Brotherhood of the Olifants from the Land of Neuch\u00e2tel<\/b><\/p>\n

Founded in 1964 by eleven defenders of the Neuch\u00e2tel vineyard, the Brotherhood aims at promoting and appreciating the quality of the wines from the Neuch\u00e2tel region, the pleasures associated to its hunting and fishing products, and the delights of its gastronomy. The term \u201colifant\u201d refers to a small hunting horn made of ivory and used by knights. It is also a symbol associated to the cornucopia. <\/p>\n

The Brotherhood is led by a Chapter of twelve Fellow Members and has over a hundred Companions – men and women – and as many Honorary Members.<\/p>\n

Futures Companions (then known as \u201cApplicants\u201d) must pass the Wine Challenge, held before the annual Spring Gathering in March. Following the instructions of the Master of Wines, Applicants are asked to describe a selection of wines from Neuch\u00e2tel while demonstrating their tasting skills. <\/span><\/p>\n

Only then do they become Companions and officially join the Brotherhood. Following this intense and difficult Challenge, they receive a medal and enjoy a hearty Banquet. <\/span><\/p>\n

Companions can then participate in the other activities of the Brotherhood, such as the Annual Meeting of the High Council, the Summer Picnic (or Poussenion), or the excellent venison themed Dinner served during the Automn Gathering in November.<\/p>\n

The Olifant, the main of symbol of the Brotherhood.<\/i><\/p>\n

A few Members might have the possibility to join one of the Brotherhood\u2019s Colleges.
